hey everybody i have a question. i have been thinking about beers that have put companies on the map or have stamped a sense of importance or uniqueness on a brewery. i think of beers like Abbey Ale for New Belgium. though Fat Tire is their biggest seller, it was Abbey Ale that was their first beer and the beer that won them all their awards. it put them on the map. you can tell why when you taste it. it is fantastic and yet unique. i also think about Midas Touch for Dog Fish Head. though they were already “one the map” as a respectable brewer, i have never been a big fan of their beer. i have to admit though, that beer is just fantastic. one of the most complicated beers i have ever tasted and i can not deny they are skilled when it comes to mastering a receipt. third, i think would be Old Monkey Shine from our local Nimbus. it is just your basic ale, yet the originality of this beer makes supporting a locale brewery a treat. i don’t think it is their best seller, but it is the uniqueness of its flavor that tells me that they know what they are doing. probably one of my favorites.
can you all think of any others? what is a beer that helps set its brewer aside from others? thanks, jared
This beer is arrogant! I love the slogan emblazoned on the bottom of the bottle, “You’re not worthy” ha, hows that for a challenge? Their description of the ale is certainly worth reading. It begins with, “This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it.” You can find it
ok, so last night i was at a family reunion and the moment came, when i was offered a beer. what was the beer i was offered you might ask, that’s right a Budweiser. now i could have said no but let me explain. everyone in my family knows that i work for a church, so there is always the tension of, do these people feel like i am judging them for every action? would they feel like me turning down their beer would be a judgment on their drinking? and really ask yourself what is worse, being judgmental about their drinking or being judgmental about their choice of drink? anyone who knows me knows that i am in no way judgmental about drinking, but isn’t it just as bad as to snub your nose at the quality of what people are drinking? anyways after this long and complicated conversation in my head i accepted the offer. i twisted off the cap (remember that if your beer has a twist off camp chances are the beer is crap. it means the beer is a little too eager to be drunk. a good beer makes you work) and yes it tasted like crap. but for the sake of family you do these things. i guess there is good reason to be a little snobby sometimes. jared
Ok, this my first post and i first would like to say thank you to tom for being so diligent in writing. i am hoping to give him a hand from now on. For my first post i would like to bring our attentions to
That’s right. This is considered the holy grail of beer. Some say for the flavor, others for it’s exclusivity. It is only sold at the abbey and you have to promise not to sell it to others. Most of us beer connoisseurs are readily familiar with this beer legend, for those that are not, now you know. Enjoy the quest.
