scotish-2.jpgscotish-1.jpghey crew I decided to give our sottish ale a try. for whatever reason the ones jared poured have all been flat. the one i had last night was great. the head on that thing was an inch and a half thick. it had an initially sweet taste which mellowed on the finish. i think it’s a winner.

time to decide

Posted in Uncategorized on October 18, 2007 by jared0220

ok everybody,

i think we are getting to that time where we try to narrow down our recipe. we should have a gathering where we break into all of the beers we have made so far and decide if there is one in particular that we want to start narrowing in on. i also think once we have one picked out and feel comfortable refining that we should try to pick out a stout recipe. it would be fun to be perfecting two recipes. what do you all think? i know that we have only made 5 batches and one of those we are already sure isn’t going to work, but we need to start picking one out sooner or later. let me know what you think. jared

crisp

I decided since it’s been two weeks since brewing Kevin’s Blonde Ale that I would do some early quality control. Besides how much time does a blonde need to condition? Initially the mellow and yet malty smell encouraged me. The appearance however seemed a bit cloudy for a blonde. The taste was crisp. I almost thought i was drinking a good, mild ipa.  The finish mellows out the crisp hoppiness and leaves the pallet satisfied. This beer at two weeks is drinkable, conditioning is only going to make it better. good job crew!

all is not lost

I decided to throw some of our first amber ale batch into the fridge a couple days a ago. It has been about three weeks since fermentation began so i thought I’d do some quality control. Now about a week ago the brew still tasted watery. Last night it was smooth and yet full of flavor. However, the color is still quite a bot darker than it should be. Any ideas on why?

what i love about pubs

Posted in Uncategorized on October 4, 2007 by jared0220

alright i am in Ireland right now and it is certainly beautiful. i stopped over in England and while i was there, two big soccer (football) games were on. so what did i do, that’s right i went to a pub, and watched both games on huge screens with great beer. every one was cheering and screaming. it was great. maybe someday that will be us. plus my team won and it doesn’t get better than that. i miss you all. are you all brewing tonight? let me know how it goes. peace, jared
