Aldea Brewery’s Vision

Aldea Brewery’s Vision

Aldea Brewery stems from a heart that insists we all want to live meaningful lives. And that we all want to be apart of something that positively shapes the world. At Aldea Brewery we take these dreams very seriously. We make beer as a way to extend charity around the world. Aldea Brewery falls in between the two worlds of non-profit business and for profit business. Non-profit businesses often exist for the purpose of giving back to the community and rely heavily on financial donations to do so. For profit business are designed to make a profit and occasionally they are involved in charitable work on the side. Aldea Brewery hopes to define a third way of doing business called hospitable profit. We envision hospitable profit as a way in which we work for profit and, above salaries and costs, we give 100% of that profit to positively influence our local and global communities. Charity is not a side project rather it is the heart and purpose of our existence. We are working on establishing a quality brew-pub that not only makes beer and serves food but gives away 100% of it profits to local, global, and “green” causes. We believe that we are not the only ones who desire to see a global shift in the way business is done and we have a vision of Hospital Profit Business redefining the purpose of business. If you would like to be apart of the Hospitable Profit business or Aldea Brewery, please email me at aleabrewery@gmail.com thanks, jared

Why charity and why beer? You might think that beer and charity are strange bedfellows, when in fact they have had a long history and rich relationship. Some of the clearest examples of communities and businesses setup to function for the purpose of good were the mid-millennial European monasteries. The monks discovered beer was a nutritious beverage that was easy to make. At the time, the beer of the region was not the finely crafted beverage we know and love today. The monks decided that anything they made must represent the God they loved and so they perfected the brewing processes using local ingredients until the beer was delicious enough to offer the community as a gift. It has not been a one-way relationship. Beer was also very generous to the monks as it turned out the profit the monks made from the sale of the beer went to supporting their many charitable endeavors. The monks helped beer’s popularity spread among the region and the world while beer helped the good works of the Christian faith to spread as well. So lets raise a glass together in the hopes that what started out as a gift from simple monks hundreds of years ago can become a global shift in the way business is done tomorrow. Be apart of something
It can be refreshing to know that by sitting down and enjoying one of our lovingly made beers you are also helping those who live in poverty, those who live with HIV/AIDS, children of abuse, those pushed out to the margins of our society, as well as the environment. We also would encourage you to live a meaningful life and to be apart of something that guarantees to positively impact the world. Join us and get involved in some of these areas yourself or tell us about the area you are passionate about. Maybe we can join you in the journey of making this world a better place.

Business plans, wiki sites, and parties

Posted in Uncategorized on November 15, 2007 by jared0220

Ok, it has been a while since I have posted here, but that doesn’t mean nothing has been going on.First, we are working on an Aldea Brewery business plan. I am using the inspiration from Tom’s Coffee Ethic plan. It is 120 pages, so you can see how this can be a tedious path. I, with help, have put together a team of people to help me write it. We are surrounded by amazing people. This should take up the next month or so. Keep an eye out, this is a big and important step for us.Second, If you are interested, we have a space on Aldea’s website to do anything with. I would like to get a chart of all the beers we have made, what they taste like and what we would like to change, etc… Go check it out and please contribute something to the site so that we all leave a piece of our selves on their. check out the rest of the site as well, it looks great. Go here. Third and finally, we have been offered a party. My brother-in-law who will soon be the owner of the amazing art gallery, Mo’s Gallery, has offered an opening that he is having in February. It would mean we need a reliable recipe, a batch of 200 or more, labels, promotional material, etc… so we need to talk about this as soon as we can. I will keep you all postedAlso, the ikon crew is coming next week and I am hoping to brew with them at least once if not twice. So i need to know when next week and the following week we all can be together. I hope that you all are well and I have been enjoying our brew nights. peace, jared

time to decide

Posted in Uncategorized on October 18, 2007 by jared0220

ok everybody,

i think we are getting to that time where we try to narrow down our recipe. we should have a gathering where we break into all of the beers we have made so far and decide if there is one in particular that we want to start narrowing in on. i also think once we have one picked out and feel comfortable refining that we should try to pick out a stout recipe. it would be fun to be perfecting two recipes. what do you all think? i know that we have only made 5 batches and one of those we are already sure isn’t going to work, but we need to start picking one out sooner or later. let me know what you think. jared

what i love about pubs

Posted in Uncategorized on October 4, 2007 by jared0220

alright i am in Ireland right now and it is certainly beautiful. i stopped over in England and while i was there, two big soccer (football) games were on. so what did i do, that’s right i went to a pub, and watched both games on huge screens with great beer. every one was cheering and screaming. it was great. maybe someday that will be us. plus my team won and it doesn’t get better than that. i miss you all. are you all brewing tonight? let me know how it goes. peace, jared

a nice brew tour

Posted in Uncategorized on September 24, 2007 by jared0220

the beer i chose

while in Cleveland, Jaime and I went on a tour of the Great Lakes Brewery. It was interesting, though the whole time i was thinking we could do this. the warehouse it self was very unorganized, stuff everywhere and the tour seemed hap-hazard. (not to mention that they take some mega-brewery short cuts like mechanically speeding up the fermentation and force carbonating their bottles  this is never very impressive.) it was interesting because the beer was good and the brewery itself is very successful. it made me think about how important presentation is and how your need to be able to tell about your passions. for one of the first times in my life i understood the process and what the equipment was for. really it was just a larger scale of what we do. how exciting to think that some day we will giving tours of our brewery and sharing the story of our birth. i can’t wait. you can check out their website here.

brewing FRIDAY not thursday

Posted in Uncategorized on September 12, 2007 by jared0220

please read this and note that there has been a change in plans. Those of us that work at aldea have a staff meeting thursday night and i completely forgot about it. so we are not going to be able to brew thursday night. so here is the new plan i hope it works.

Jamie and i were thinking about friday night at 6. we were thinking about making it an evening of food, beer bottling, beer brewing, and bread making. those of you with kids are welcome to bring them. we can all eat together and your kids are welcome to go down to sleep here. does that sound good?  i am sorry about the sudden change, i forgot about this meeting. i have talk to most of you and it sounds like this works. so e-mail us all back and let me know. i am send this out as an e-mail and posting it on the blog so that we get used to using it as well. so you all friday, jared

beer is the new wine?

Posted in Uncategorized on September 1, 2007 by jared0220

utopias $100 a bottledon’t ask me how i know this, but “the view” just did a segment called beer is the new wine. there were tables setup each with different food types. the point of the segment was to talk about how beer is beginning to compete with wine on many fronts. 1st, people are starting to appreciate beers that have a finer taste. 2nd, people are starting to pair the beers with the food the are eating, and finally people are starting to spend more money on beers that are of higher quality. speaking of beers of higher quality, the beer pictured is Sam Adam’s new “Utopias” that cost one hundred dollars a bottle. it is to be drunk at room temperature, served in small cognac-like glasses, and sipped (seeing that its alcohol content is 25%).

in some ways i can see that this is good, i am tired of people looking at me like i am some drunk frat boy when i mention that i like fine beers. maybe finally people well recognize that one can have a finely tuned beer pallet. on the other hand, i don’t want beer to become a “rich man’s” drink. there has always been something special about being in on the “secret.” there is a world of finely crafted beers. now the secret is going to get out and people are going to realize that beer made by those whom appreciate the craft, does taste better. before you know it every local brewery is going to start charging $10 for a 4 pack. (not to mention any names – Dog Fish Head-). Maybe this is like watching a close friend become successful, choose not to be jealous, instead be happy for beer.

Good job beer. i have known for a while that you deserve all the recognition your getting. just remember the little people that have supported you form the beginning. peace, jared

beers that have put people on the map

Posted in Uncategorized on August 28, 2007 by jared0220

hey everybody i have a question. i have been thinking about beers that have put companies on the map or have stamped a sense of importance or uniqueness on a brewery. i think of beers like Abbey Ale for New Belgium. though Fat Tire is their biggest seller, it was Abbey Ale that was their first beer and the beer that won them all their awards. it put them on the map. you can tell why when you taste it. it is fantastic and yet unique. i also think about Midas Touch for Dog Fish Head. though they were already “one the map” as a respectable brewer, i have never been a big fan of their beer. i have to admit though, that beer is just fantastic. one of the most complicated beers i have ever tasted and i can not deny they are skilled when it comes to mastering a receipt. third, i think would be Old Monkey Shine from our local Nimbus. it is just your basic ale, yet the originality of this beer makes supporting a locale brewery a treat. i don’t think it is their best seller, but it is the uniqueness of its flavor that tells me that they know what they are doing. probably one of my favorites.

can you all think of any others? what is a beer that helps set its brewer aside from others? thanks, jared
